Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which includes $1.5 billion for a Homelessness Prevention Fund. Funding for this program, called the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP), is being distributed based on the formula used for the Emergency Shelter Grants program. The North Dakota Department of Commerce may potentially receive up to $2,582,637 to assist homeless persons/households as well as prevent homelessness. To access HPRP funding, the Department of Commerce will be working with private non-profits, the North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People, Inc., and other partners to develop and submit a required Substantial Amendment to the State's Consolidated Plan by May 18, 2009. The Department will post the Substantial Amendment for public review as soon as it developed.
