Emergency Shelter Grants Program

The Emergency Shelter Grants Program is a federal program designed to provide financial assistance to facilities and programs within North Dakota which provide temporary shelter to homeless individuals.
DCS currently awards grant funds directly to emergency/homeless shelters throughout the state to provide funds for activities such as rehabilitation, operational expenses (utilities, insurances, furnishings/appliances, etc.) and essential services (medical, laundry, cab fare, etc.).
DCS is responsible for reviewing and ranking applications, reporting to HUD, awarding grant funds and monitoring the recipients for compliance with program rules. The program administrator visits shelters to provide technical assistance and verify expenditures.
